Let it Go: The Power of Forgiveness

IMG_0305

What’s the first word that comes to your mind when I mention “forgiveness”? For me (and I suspect many others) the first word that comes to mind is “difficult.” Our relationships can get messy and we often can find it hard or difficult to forgive others. One of the biggest hurdles in our spiritual health is the barrier of not receiving forgiveness from God and not forgiving others. In order to live in the freedom Christ has for us, we first need to understand what it means to forgive.

Last Wednesday, I taught a lesson on understanding what it means to forgive as God intended it. The video is below and if you have 30 minutes, I encourage you to watch it.

Resting in God’s Presence

IMG_0302

I think we, as a society have forgotten how to rest. In fact, I think some of us have never been taught or shown how to rest. The reality is that our lives are busy. We live in a modern world where busyness is part of the norm. But in our modern world, we have moved from busy to hurried sickness.

Hurried sickness is a phrase that originated with Dallas Willard who recently passed away. For those of you who have picked up on it, the book we are reading – Soul Keeping is basically everything he learned from his own personal life and being mentored by Dallas Willard.

Too often we are suffering from hurried sickness. Our souls are panting and sorely in need of rest. Busy is an outward condition, a condition of the body. Busyness is inevitable. Hurried is an inner condition, a condition of the soul.

The solution is for us to balance rest and activity. We need to balance activity and rest or there will be a sickness in the soul.

Who Am I? Living In Our Kingdom Identity

IMG_0296

What does the topic of identity have to do with the subject and title of the course I am currently teaching?  It actually has a very strong connection to the course. When we talk about the health of our soul and exhibiting a healthy Christian life, knowing who God made us is critical to the our thoughts, feelings, and actions. When we fail to understand our true identity in Christ it will effect what we think about ourselves, what we feel from our heart, and the choices we make.

We are continually forgetting who we are in Christ and filling that void by placing our identity in pretty much anything else. This leads us to often ask,“Who am I?” The question is far- reaching, belief- revealing, life- shaping, and identity- forming. How you answer determines your identity and your testimony. Tragically, few people— even few Bible- believing, Jesus- loving Christians— rightly answer that question.

You may not realize it, but being made in the image of God plays a key role in everything you do in life.  To learn more about this, please watch the teaching video below.
